10 years of blue.works: Goosebumps Feelding with the “Rücknahmebengel” – our anniversary weekend in Zug and Zermatt
Ten years. A decade full of successes, setbacks, lessons learned and – of course – lots of fun. We simply had to celebrate in style! We wanted to aim high and we wanted to remember our roots. So what better destination than Zermatt, the place that was listed by Lonely Planet as one of the 10 best travel destinations in the world in 2025. But let’s tell the story from the beginning.
The planning of this team event was – let’s say – “open” at one point or another. Not everything went perfectly in the run-up to the event, and yes, we received some very constructive and appreciated maneuvering criticism.
But if there’s one thing we’ve learned at blue.works, it’s that we can grow from every challenge and criticism and that so far no one has noticed that one or two things weren’t planned to the end. Or to put it another way: “Being blue.works also means going off the rails because we didn’t take the perfectly planned route. But the main thing is that the team gives you a soft landing, you learn from the mistake and at the end of the day you’re the first to cross the finish line because we took the most efficient route.”
The start of our anniversary weekend began with an almost glamorous partner event at the Theater Casino Zug. Exquisite food, a great atmosphere, inspiring conversations and moments that got under your skin – I admit, I had goosebumps at a few points. It wasn’t just the delicious food and the beautiful location – thank you to the team at Theater Casino Zug, you were fantastic – but also the conversations with our companions who have been with us for a decade. It was one of those evenings when you realize how much we have achieved together as a team with our customers and partners. And whoever said that I had wet eyes: that was the fresh Zugersee wind. Honestly.
So on Saturday we boarded the train to Zermatt.
In Zermatt, we experienced exactly what makes us special: team spirit and openness. During a guided tour of the village, it became clear that pioneering spirit, tradition and modernity can go hand in hand. The evening then brought the magic to the table – not only in the Zermatterstübli, but also in the conversations that showed why we at blue.works are more than just a group of 18 to 67-year-old colleagues – and yes, we celebrated this in a fitting and traditional way for the Valais with fondue and wine.
Cheers to blue.works, because perhaps we secretly raised a glass or two too many over the course of the days and yet everything remained orderly – and no one from the board or management had to resign. Well, apart from a small fall by our oldest colleague, which caused us a bit of stress. But we wouldn’t be blue.works if we hadn’t been prepared for this situation and hadn’t handled it together with humor, a second round of coffee, a visit to the optician and a later train and corrected the mistake. Here you can read how we prepare for such situations as a team.
Sunday was all about our values. We visited the Glacier Palace, enjoyed lunch together and crowned the day with our “legendary” Celebration Night. The blue.works Celebration Night is an adapted fuck-up night. But we want to focus on the successes, not the mistakes. During the Celebration Night, the so-called “Redemption Angel” is awarded: This award is not a direct award for a mistake that has been made.
But where a lot of work is done and new paths are sometimes taken, mistakes are made that are discussed at an early stage. This award stands for the fact that the award winner – this year we were able to warmly congratulate Piero Perrone – has set a special example of trying out new things, communicating openly about any mistakes and being particularly open to advice.
This is confirmed by the ratings from Karma and a team survey. Our values such as innovation, openness and shared success are always at the forefront – sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly, but always noticeably. And if you want to know all our values in detail again, you’ll find them here.
The tenth year at blue.works has also been a journey full of learning, laughter and growth. The Celebration Night was therefore not only a look back at what we achieved last year, but also a renewed promise to ourselves for the coming year: we will remain true to ourselves, continue to grow and make next year even better and more efficient. Perhaps with the odd spontaneous change of plan and yes, not everything will work out the way we want it to right away, but we will move forward together!
At the end of this post, there is only one thing left for me to say: Thank you – to my great team, to our great customers and partners for their trust.
Without you, blue.works would not be what it is today. Cheers to us, to you and to the next ten years of innovation and team spirit!
