Update

What’s new in the AppOps area with SolMan SPS12?

SAP has also released some small improvements in the application operations area with SPS12 to increase acceptance and stability.

IT Calendar

IT Calendar new feature includes simple scheduling to add work modes. Simple scheduling has the benefit to set offset in seconds which define how long until the work mode starts of the current time. Duration is set for how long this work mode lasts in minutes. Simple scheduling also allows to choose multiple systems.

What has been the standard for IT Calendar can still be accessed from the top right corner when scheduling work mode.

IT Task Management

Notification resources – New function “Where Used List for Recipients” allows you to search auto-notifications individual recipients or recipient list and can be replaced or removed much quicker than earlier.

In Task Inbox, you can choose multiple tasks and set status for them or assign them rather than choosing individual tasks. Also have new column called “Last Changed At” which shows when the task was last changed

Message Flow Monitoring

In message flow monitoring, there are two new columns – Last RT Component which identifies from where the latest event of an error or a message was received and Status Details which shows the description of the individual status given to a message.

Moreover, in the Fiori app Message Flow Monitoring, the content of the Message Flow tab page can be exported to an Excel file.

Job Monitoring and Job Management

SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS12 can now fetch data from SAP BPA and SM-SE 7.2 certified schedulers via API instead of direct database connection which was limited to SAP BPA by Redwood.

The following functions are possible using the SM-SE 7.2 APIs without direct database connection:

  1. Monitoring of Job Type SMSE
  2. Job Documentation Mass Maintenance function “Read from Scheduler” for job chain hierarchy data
  3. Central job overview

In Job Management you can see parent’s ID number and can follow the link to the parent job document if a job document has a parent job document.

As for SMSE jobs, job data fetched from managed ABAP system can be enriched via BAdl with scheduling information, such as event name. Having enriched the document with own data, you have the option to avoid the update of a job document by feeding a non-existing job status via operation “FILL_JOB_DOC_DEEP” in BAdl AGS_JSM_JOBDEF_MASSMAINTAIN. This means you can do a validation before the update happens.

SAP BPA by Redwood offers the scripts REDWOOD.CONTENT_GenerateProcessChain and REDWOOD.CONTENT_GenerateProcessDefinition to create and update job definitions. To get those scripts, open a ticket in SAP Support Portal on component XX-PART-REDWOOD-BPA. SAP Solution Manager not only uses the “create” option, but also of the “update” option, so that the job definition is automatically renamed to the name of the scheduled job.

When selecting a job document to submit an edit request, before you start entering any data, you are informed if there is an assigned request already.

Service Availibility

Outages are now created for grey alerts, workmode changes or reconfiguration instead of only green alerts. From the Details of Outage page you can navigate to new screen Alert Details which shows the details of the originating alert and the database table “SAM_BL_ALRT_CONF” is excluded from the availability alerts which should not be recorded as a outage.
